Community

FinTel Communications is active in the local community. John Fineran, President believes that volunteer work is an important piece of one’s personal and corporate life. Mr. Fineran leads his company in many community based charities and non-profits to help fundraise, market and provide technical support as needed.

 

The First Tee Montgomery County

 

The First Tee, Montgomery County uses golf as platform to teach young people how to be successful on and off the course. Focusing on youth who would not typically have access to the game and its opportunities, The First Tee helps its golfers learn how to use Respect, Perseverance, Honesty, Integrity, Courtesy, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Confidence and Judgment in school, with adults and with their friends.

FinTel Communications serves on the Board and provides technical support, as well. FinTel employees volunteer with after school classes and summer camps when possible.

Come Back to Bethesda

Founded in 1990, the Come Back to Bethesda Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show and Family Day has attracted NASCAR celebrities, International Hot Rod Association world champions, athletes, and car and truck owners from all over the DC Metropolitan area. Held in conjunction with Taste of Bethesda, approximately 40,000 people visit the event on the first Saturday in October each year.

Since 2000, Mr. Fineran has co-chaired this event, a fundraiser for The Children’s Inn at NIH. Recruiting sponsors, vehicle owners, volunteers, managing the event committee and donations supporting the event are all provided to this great charity.

Suburban Maryland Transportation Alliance

Traffic congestion in the Washington, DC area is now the worst in the nation.  Suburban communities in Maryland are all struggling with deteriorating roads and bridges, while dozens of unfunded transit, road, bicycle and pedestrian improvements that could make a real difference remain stuck in “neutral.”  The Suburban Maryland Transportation Alliance (SMTA) was formed to get us moving again, by providing expert analysis, public education and ongoing advocacy for a more efficient, safe and balanced transportation network in Suburban Maryland.

Mr. Fineran is a Board member of this non-profit and provides technical support for their website, email and various technical and marketing needs.

Committee for Montgomery

The Committee for Montgomery (CFM) is a coalition of 40 leaders representing a broad cross-section of Montgomery County business, labor, education, civic, and community-based organizations. While CFM membership is diverse and reflects a broad cross-section of political views, it is united in support of priorities, which include education, health and human services, economic and work force development, and transportation. CFM selects its state legislative and budget priorities based on the goal of preserving and strengthening Montgomery County and Maryland as a place to live, work, and learn.

Mr. Fineran has been a Board member since 2004 and continues to support the committee as needed.

The University of Maryland Alumni Association

The mission of the University of Maryland Alumni Association is to support and promote the University in its pursuits of excellence in teaching, research and public service and to foster a spirit of loyalty, involvement and life-long commitment to the University by its alumni.

Mr. Fineran has been involved with the Alumni Association since 1998 and has been President of the Montgomery County Club since 2000. Since he has been involved, Mr. Fineran has managed a Board of Directors and led them to successfully stage many University of Maryland related events in support of the sports teams and in recruiting new members for the Alumni Association.

Terrapin Club

The Terrapin Club is the scholarship fund for Maryland Athletics that helps offset costs of over $10.2 million in annual scholarship support for many of the 700+ student athletes who compete on 27 varsity teams representing the University of Maryland. Over 8000 alumni, friends and fans of University of Maryland Athletics contribute to the Terrapin Club annually. Tax deductible gifts to the Terrapin Club are vital to the continued success of Maryland Athletics as there is no state financial support for these scholarship programs.

Mr. Fineran has been involved with the Terrapin Club since 2009.  Since he has been involved, Mr. Fineran has managed a Board of Directors and leading to successful University of Maryland related events in support of the sports teams and in recruiting new members for the Terrapin Club.
